The northern winter sun sits decidedly low on the horizon.

And paints long, dark, dramatic, shadows on the snow.

Who says winter lacks excitement?

Every winter storm brings new life to some of Maine’s most appealing creatures.

This very charming species was spotted in Castine after the ‘Route One Blizzard’ of early 2010.

Here they are observed in their native habitat.

The skies in Maine can be very dramatic. This was just a crazy cloud formation. What was going on up there?

But this was a giant storm cloud that moved quickly across the bay, pounding us with a swift douse of heavy rain.

Sunshine wasn’t far behind.

Festival of Independence in the Midcoast
One great thing about snow is that it’s easy to see who’s stopped by. But sometimes an analytics program would be helpful — is this a rabbit, or a squirrel? Or something else?

The architecture of Maine is one of it’s greatest assets. And what could be more inspirational than the exquisite churches found amongst it’s oldest villages?
But gee whiz, things have really changed since these churches began. In 1794, according to the First Congregational Church, the citizens of Camden were fined if they didn’t support a religious order. One more reason to make their churches spectacular.
Happy Easter!

Finally, this very snowy winter gets noticed. According to Village Soup in Camden, the winter snowfall in the Rockport area has totaled 86.5 inches through the month of February. Even Martha Stewart blogged about all the beautiful white stuff at her home in Seal Harbor.
