These sometimes colorful objects pop up in places where you might expect to find gnomes this time of year.

Mushrooms are not plants, but a fungus that can either kill you, or heal you, or take you on a psychedelic trip.
This one might be related to Amanits muscaria — the traditional toadstool associated with Alice in Wonderland, gnomes, faries, and even Santa Claus. Super Mario knows them well.
(Anybody know what this is?)

Many mushrooms will make a heavenly meal, but you’d best be sure you’ve chosen the right one.
