It’s Christmas time in Maine.

You can tell by all the simple and charming wreaths on doors, barns, lamposts, churches, mailboxes, and jeeps.

They look absolutely perfect on our New England architecture.

Wreaths are used in many cultures and often relflect the idea of strength or eternity.

(In Maine, they often stay up until spring arrives.)

Wishing everyone all the joys and happiness this season brings!
Or as Mike Crosson heard on the radio — “During this holy season, I wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, Merry Festivus, Happy Kwaanza, and for all you atheists – have a nice day.”

The white carpet is being rolled out for winter’s arrival.

We’re ready.

It was so cold the first part of February that these sculptures were in pretty good shape more than a week after they were carved.

Shot on February 8, these photos show some of what remained of the Ice Sculpture event at Winterfest, held in Camden’s beautiful amphitheater, on January 30.

More proof that fun in Maine’s winter is endless.

Fingers were freezing, video camera was jittery, global warming was not evident, but the US National Toboggan Championships event was lots of fun.
