Hot = Ice Cream.

Tuesday, August 18th, 2009

Hot summer sunrise.

An orange sunrise naturally leads to a hot day. And a hot day eventually leads to ice cream.

We’ve had a very soggy and cool July, but August is providing just the right ambience for that icy treat.

The popular Roadfood web site has rated The Best Ice Cream in New England. Just to get listed is a great recommendation. And we’d like you to know that Maine did very well in the results, especially Sanford –

Epic Rating, World Class:

Tubby’s, Wayne — Map

Worth traveling across state lines:

The Camden Cone serves Roundtop –

Toot’s, North Yarmouth – Map

Worth traveling several hours:

Worth it if you’re in the area:

Beals, Portland —  Map

Dorman’s Dairy Cream, Thomaston —  Map

The Chowhound web site has lots of interesting chats about food. Here’s one on an Ice Cream trip through Maine.

And The MaineMaven asked for, and got, lots of comments on her Maine Ice Cream post. Fun to read.

Maine is the perfect place to savor classic summer activities. An ice cream cone is required.

Working up an appetite for Fried Ice Cream.

Here’s another reason to visit Point Lookout – the recently opened Copper Pine Cafe. It’s just across from the fitness center and might be the perfect antidote for a workout.

The chef, Royce Wright, knows his way around a kitchen.

Originally from the very foodie San Francisco Bay Area, and very happy to be in Maine, Royce has operated a couple of tasty restaurants in Rockland — The Park Street Grille and The Union Station Grille. He had a cooking show in the 90′s and is currently writing a cookbook. Open for breakfast and lunch, he’ll be happy to prepare something delicious from the menu below.

Chasing the harvest.

Sunday, October 19th, 2008

The harvest is in at Chase’s Daily in Belfast.

The Chase family runs this very popular restaurant/farm stand/art gallery and bakery in the center of Belfast. It’s both hippy and hip, with a bit of New York Soho flavor.

They grow most of the luscious fresh vegetables at their farm in Freedom. And they cook up very tasty vegetarian fare in this gorgeous brick building. Even non-vegens are happy to hang out here. You’ll find fine cheeses and coffee as well. They were recently featured in a story in the Boston Globe.

Chase’s Daily, 96 Main St., Belfast, Maine, 207-338-0555.
