Pirates attack Camden Harbor.

Last weekend, the raiders snuck into the harbor to the tune of a bagpipe.

And launched their attack on land.

But the Red Coats were ready.

And swiftly shot their cannons, while the onlookers took their own shots.

But the pirates had local support from various points in the harbor. (As well as support among the crowd.)

Casualities were few. Even those caught in the crossfire enjoyed the rest of the day.

Correction — pirates are not extinct.

There was a mention in a previous posting about the possible extinction of pirates. It’s not true. Pirates are featured in the top news stories these days, and some are making tons of money as well — in one area around $30 million a year according to BBC News. Pretty scarey. But doubtful that they’re calling each other ‘matey.’

Pirate in Camden, Maine

Pirates have recently been spotted in Camden. So they are not totally extinct yet. Although they are widely believed to be endangered.

If things had turned out differently, we’d all be speaking like a pirate today. So here’s your chance to see what that would be like. 

September 19th is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. And it’s gotta be fun if Dave Barry’s involved.

John Baur (“Ol’ Chumbucket”) and Mark Summers (“Cap’n Slappy”), of Corvallis, Oregon were playing racquetball one day and, well, this is their version of how it all got started.

‘Pirate’ is an endangered language and if not used will soon be on the list of dead languages. So get your swashbuckles out and do your part.
