Days are shorter, nights are longer. We’re entering the nighttime of the year.

In our silhouetted landscape, moonrises are spectacular. (This is the Breaver, or Frost, or Snow Moon that occurs in November.)

The heavy moon is huge when it first emerges. Really huge.

As it rises, it becomes smaller in proportion to the horizon.

Just like us.

Thursday, October 8th, 2009(Still fiddling with a new camera.) The night of the Harvest Moon was too foggy to really see it. This was the next night.

It was bright orange as it came up over the horizon.

And got brighter and whiter as it rose, spreading sparkles over the water. You’ll notice that it’s not fully round — the top right edge is soft.
