The Ship Harbor Trail in MDI’s Acadia National Park, is gorgeous.

And an easy way for anyone to experience the rugged and charming Maine coast.

Even the rich and famous.

Big wind, big tree, big roots.

Where do bunnies spend a dreary, soggy, spring day?

At Weatherbird in Damariscotta.

Where they can gather supplies for the sweetest of holidays coming up this Sunday.

Weatherbird has more than just sweets — wine, cheeses, produce, etc. Will do a more complete posting soon. (This is not an April Fools joke.)

But right now, sweet spring means Sweet Easter.
Have a Happy One!!!

From the road, you’d never guess what’s inside this very plain building in Lincolnville Beach, near the Islesboro ferry.

Even the sign doesn’t give you a clear idea, other than you can pick up a cup of coffee and something to eat.

So you’re in for a wonderful surprise!

Dot’s Market is a fabulous new foodie resource in Midcoast Maine. It’s named in honor of the grandmother of the owner, Melissa Carr. And they both appear to like the iconic retro candy.

Melissa’s mother, just happens to be the very talented woman who pioneered the well-loved Market Basket in Rockport on Route One and 90.

Dot’s is packed with personality and great food. Plus a very nice selection of beer and wine.

There’s plenty of parking in front, and lots of room inside for the lines that will ultimately form this summer. So go now!

And refresh your pantry.

Or pick up fresh ingredients for a tasty picnic on Islesboro, or to complete that recipe you found in an old Gourmet magazine, or just join your friends for a fun lunch.

But watch out, you’ll be tempted by all the goodies sprinkled across the huge front counter.

And take your time perusing before you place your order. You don’t want to miss anything.

It was so cold the first part of February that these sculptures were in pretty good shape more than a week after they were carved.

Shot on February 8, these photos show some of what remained of the Ice Sculpture event at Winterfest, held in Camden’s beautiful amphitheater, on January 30.

More proof that fun in Maine’s winter is endless.

Fingers were freezing, video camera was jittery, global warming was not evident, but the US National Toboggan Championships event was lots of fun.
Click here to see the larger version of the video.
The opening act for the Winter Olympics was held last weekend at the Camden Snow Bowl in Camden, Maine.

The 20th Annual US National Toboggan Championships glorified the spectacle of winter sports, but required a certain attitude.

It was a little bit Mardi Gras.

And a little bit fierce competition.

With a whoopie pie thrown in to boot.

The pageantry was awe inspiring.

Security was tight.

And the right equipment provided the edge to win.

Team spirit was everywhere, but here are the - – - -> winners.
(Will post more soon.)

Built for speed, these benches, made out of materials meant to blaze down mountains, are now frozen in time.

And provide a pretty cool spot to enjoy fast (or slow) food.

They’ve come to a full stop right in front of Verve, in the University of Maine’s town of Orono. And are the fantastic handiwork of one of the talented employees – - Matt Miller. His raw materials came from friends and the Ski Rack. Sure hope he got a nice raise!
Known for their burritos, Verve is run by Abe and Heather Furth, (UMaine alumni,) and has been reviewed by the delightful MaineMaven.
Don’t waste any time racing over to see what’s cooking.
