In the spring, this happy sea creature caught a leafy wave.

And in the summer, it looks like it might be swallowed up by the garden.

Maybe it was.

Everyone seems to flock to Asticou in the spring to see the color of the azeleas.

But gee whiz, fall is spectacular. Martha Stewart thinks so too. She has some nice descriptions of individual specimens on her blog.

Learn more about Asticou and see it in the spring.

This is prime time for fall color in Maine.

What makes Maine especially beautiful in the fall is the way the deep green conifers contrast with the blazing hard woods.

So jump in the car and drive around this gorgeous state.

Even those who can’t drive get to enjoy the colors. Lucky Adams School students in Castine get to look at this stunning tree.

And the students at the Drinkwater School in Northport have this background for their playground activities.
We have mere moments until it’s officially summer, 2010, so dig out the croquet set and squeeze the lemonade.

The weather has been spectacularly warm and sunny. The deep autumn shadows really punch up the fiery colors against the deep blue sky. And the streets, shops, restaurants and beaches have been bursting with all of us soaking up this fleeting beauty. Soon we will have to let it go and get out the rakes. But right now — Wow!

The distinctive aspect in Maine is that the dark green evergreens make the hot colors of the soft woods pop. Will try to get some better photos that show this.
