Mere days ago, the temperature rose and the sun shone.

And the mist hovered.

The perfect combination of elements for trying out new beach gear.

And making new footprints in this year’s sand. Yes, we do have sand in Maine.

Beautiful pink granite rocks make up entire islands in Maine and a good part of the shoreline, especially around Mt. Desert Island.

On a recent walk around tiny Rams Island, just off of Gotts Island, we discovered a few things that have found shelter in the cracks between the granite.

The battered remains of shellfish.

And very hardy vegetation.

The Ship Harbor Trail in MDI’s Acadia National Park, is gorgeous.

And an easy way for anyone to experience the rugged and charming Maine coast.

Even the rich and famous.

Big wind, big tree, big roots.
