Stone Soup.

These are times when we can’t help but think of the ancient story of Stone Soup. The Grimm Brother’s tale tells us of travelers, during a time of scarcity, who come upon a village hoping to find kind souls willing to share a little food. Unfortunately, no one was willing.

So they put a stone into water in a pot over a fire. They told the curious villagers that they were making their famous, and delicious, Stone Soup, which just needed a few more minor ingredients to make it perfect. They would happily share it when it was ready. One by one, the villagers willingly contributed small bits of what they had. And when it was ready, everyone enjoyed the meal.

The above photo is of the Stone Soup used book store in Camden. Can you see it? It’s the green open door in the middle, set in the wee bit of a cedar shingled storefront. It may be tiny, but it’s bursting with delectable concoctions, whose main ingredient is the alphabet.
