Lincolnville Beach Viands.

Who would have thought that the ‘simple’ life in Maine could be so complex? Gourmet dining can now be found in the most unlikely, and beautiful, places.

Gourmet Magazine has included a couple of Maine restaurants in their list of the 50 best American restaurants for the past few years — Arrows in Ogunquit and Fore Street in Portland. And The Edge in Lincolnville Beach has been getting noticed. Could the local food be their secret?

These days, most good cooks, professionals included, find their special ingredients at the local farmers market. And The Lincolnville Farmers Market is where any ‘foodie’ will find some treats. True to Maine spirit, these people are working hard to provide not only great products but original ideas — ‘organic’ whoopie pies??!! Plus excellent and innovative cheeses, produce, fish, meats, fruits, baked goods, maple syrup, etc. There are even goodies for pets.

The next thing you know, Alex Katz will do a series on the food at Lincolnville Beach, instead of the folks in the water.

Click here for more info on the vendors. (Sorry the handmade pasta pics didn’t turn out.) You can find the market at Lincolnville Beach, on Route One, in the parking lot of the Whale Tooth Pub every Tuesday, 9-12, most likely through October.
